THE COORDINATOR : ALASEHIR FEN LISESI ( ALAFEN)

Our school is a science high school in Alasehir, Manisa. Alasehir, which was called Philadelphia in the Middle Ages, is a historical town in the Aegean Region. As Philadelphia, Alasehir was a highly important  center in the Byzantine period. It has a very important church named St. Jean, which was definitely  listed among the seven churches in Revelation.


Our school is a public school. The school has got  336 students. It is a boarding school. Our school has many students from different parts of Turkey. It has 27 teachers and 5 other staff. It has 2 teachers of English. Our institution is located in a rural area which doesn’t give any opportunities to students to practise English language except from the classroom environment. Moreover, it has many pupils and parents whose social-economic situation is not so good. We will have especially these students to be involved in the project activities. However, the location of school in the region is so nice because it is only 100 km far from the biggest city of Turkey, İzmir.

The mission of the school is to provide relevant and quality education through its Special Science Curriculum, to prepare the students for higher education in the field of mathematics and natural sciences, to help training highly qualified scientists, to prepare the conditions and the environment for the students who are interested in research, scientific and technological developments, to educate individuals who can use the new technologies and prepare projects and finally to give them a foreign language education so that they can make scientific research and follow the scientific and technological developments.

Our school passes the essential skills on to the pupils so that they get the necessary means to adapt to the needs of today’s society. In doing so, we hope that tomorrow’s grown-ups will be better able to cope with and integrate well into a society in constant evolution, as well as preserve and reinforce the democratic values. This partnership we intend to set up would be an opportunity to share our experience and extend it to other contexts and other Europen regions.

With this project, our school will show that young generation will provide a big change in their own lives and the lives of the adults in the society. They will enhance their well-being by learning to exercise and show that we have the power to change negative thoughts and feelings into positive, rational, motivating thoughts, and in doing so, help create a healthy mind in a healthy body.

It is important to inform the society that emotions, life events, and coping skills can have a very strong influence on health. So, we will help the young and the adults understand that we can have a happy and healthy life by removing negative thoughts and stress and also doing regular exercise.
